Citranation: A Nation United Under Hops

When we started Night Shift, we had little intention of brewing an IPA in our first year. After numerous request from our awesome fans, we finally gave in. Citranation is a 100% Citra-hopped Belgian Double IPA, bursting with tropical flavors of grapefruit, pineapple, and hoppy heaven. There’s nothing funky or weird in it, just a whole lotta Citra hops and a fruity Belgian yeast.  Clocking in at 9.2% and ~90 IBUs, it is significantly more hoppy than any of our current offerings. We brewed it on election day, and believe that this beer asks us not to choose a Democratic or Republican nation, but instead: a CITRANATION.

Sharing in our excitement for this beer is taproom regular Matt Brassel, who declared on Facebook: ”I pledge allegiance to the beer known as Citranation & to the flavor for which it stands. one hop in the brew, 9.2% ABV w/ IBUs & aroma for all.” Amen.

Citranation will be released on Thursday 12/20/2012 (5-9pm) in our taproom and is available for growler fills. Select bars in the Boston area will also be serving it on draft over the next few weeks! Drink it fresh and have a Hoppy Holidays!

Be careful Night Shift people. One of the things I love most about you guys is that you don’t do IPAs (although I seem to be one of the few people on earth who doesn’t like them, or hoppy beers in general for that matter). I guess I’m fine with you brewing just one, but let’s not make this a thing, OK? :-)

Don’t worry Charlie we won’t make it a habit. As you can tell from our lineup of beers we are not crazy IPA fans either. Overly bitter and unbalanced beers are not our style at all. We have way more fun using other ingredients to craft our unique beers. No plans nor will there be plans of converting our lineup to tongue numbing IPA’s. Cheers!

One of the best beers I ever had was Nightmare Before Vicious which was a one off barrel aged sour IPA from Jolly Pumpkin. If you are going to do an IPA, go ahead and make it funky, I won’t mind at all.
